Five New Skippers Take the Helm at BS&BC

Learning together. Giving back.

MSP brings sailors of different experience levels together to learn from knowledgeable volunteer mentors. Through hands-on time aboard club boats, members build practical skills, confidence, and friendships that extend well beyond the docks.

For Emmanuelle, that journey started in 2023 when she returned to sailing after enjoying keelboats and dinghies in her younger years. With mentor Anne LeBarr, she strengthened her skills over several seasons, particularly her confidence handling a boat under power. Along the way, she learned from other members and found a welcoming community through racing, social activities, and sailing together.

The adventure continues

Becoming a skipper is a milestone, not the finish line. Eligible certified skippers can continue to book the club's sailboats, gaining experience and enjoying time on Burlington Bay without needing to own a boat right away. Club boat use is subject to the program's eligibility and volunteer requirements.

Thank you to our mentors

Every new skipper's success reflects the generosity of volunteers who mentor, organize sessions, maintain boats, and share their knowledge. Thank you for making this program such a meaningful part of BS&BC—and congratulations again to Emmanuelle, Henry, Shweta, Ronnie and Vineet!
