Volunteer Hours
Volunteer Hours
Volunteering is the lifeblood of Burlington Sailing & Boating Club (BS&BC). Our club thrives because members step up to help from managing events to maintaining our facilities. Heres everything you need to know about volunteering, logging your time, and fulfilling your seasonal obligation.
Why Volunteer?
- Make a meaningful impact on the clubs success
- Build relationships with fellow sailors and members
- Learn new skills (event planning, race coordination, maintenance)
- Gain recognition at the Annual General Meeting
- Deepen your connection to the sailing community
When many hands pull together, the club runs smoother and the benefits ripple through every members experience.
Volunteer Opportunities: Where You Can Help
- Events & Socials Setup, registration, food service, host roles
- Officer of the Day (OOD) Welcome visitors, manage day-to-day operations
- Race Committee Timing, scoring, safety, on-water coordination
- Facility & Grounds Maintenance Landscaping, minor repairs, cleaning
- Mentored Sailing Programme (MSP) Guide and support newer or younger sailors
All open opportunities are posted on the Duty Roster. Members can browse tasks in advance, sign up for shifts, and receive reminders.
The Volunteer Portal is then used to track and log your hours once your duties are complete.
Volunteer Hour Requirements
Volunteer hours are tracked by season, running from October 1 to September 30 each year.
Member Level | Required Hours / Season | Notes & Alternatives |
---|---|---|
Senior Member | 20 hours | Or opt to contribute financially |
Intermediate Member | 10 hours |
These thresholds help distribute workload fairly among all members.
Note: Unfulfilled volunteer hours are charged at $20 per hour.
Tracking & Logging Hours
- The volunteer season runs from October 1 to September 30
- Many roles (OOD, race committee, events) have pre-assigned hour values
- For ad hoc tasks (maintenance, gardening, cleanup), log your actual hours in the portal
- All logged hours are tallied automatically
- Top contributors are recognized at the Annual General Meeting
Preferred Method: Use the Volunteer Portal to log all hours this ensures the most accurate and timely tracking.
Alternative Method: For ad hoc reporting, you may also submit hours using our Contact Form by choosing the topic Member Reporting Volunteer Hours.
