What is a Shark?

A Shark is a very popular 24-foot keelboat designed by George Hinterhoeller. Sharks are responsive and easy to handle, even in heavy winds. There is an active racing class association and a large fleet of Sharks in this area.

How does the program work?

The Shark Program has two membership categories:

Crew members may sail on the boat but may not sign out a boat.

Skippers may sign out a boat. To qualify as a Skipper you must have successfully completed the Canadian Yachting Association’s (CYA) "White Sail III" course and/or successfully challenged the CYA’s " Basic Cruising Exam" or demonstrate equivalent skills, and be approved by the Program Coordinator.

What does it cost?

To become a member of the Shark Program:

You join BS&BC as an intermediate member,

You join the Shark Program (Crew or Skipper)

The total cost is $449 a year, for 2 years (this includes initiation) , then you become a Senior Member with Shark Use for $444 per year.
